Would Universal Basic Income be an effective policy?
Alaskans receive a dividend from the Alaska Permanent Fund. The payouts have not raised unemployment—they've grown demand for labor.
A University of Chicago report shows the dividend has had no significant effect on employment. The size of the payouts ($2,000 per person) was is not enough to make Alaskans leave their jobs. Alaskans have tended to spend more, which has in turn increased demand for service jobs.
